Introducing Our New Strategic Plan: Shaping the Future Together

The Council and the team at the College are excited to unveil the College’s new Strategic Plan—a proactive framework to guide CPM’s decisions and actions in alignment with its public protection mandate over the next three years. Rooted in our mandate and inspired by our shared vision and values, this plan reflects months of thoughtful collaboration and input from physiotherapists, staff, students, and other interested parties.

Why We Shifted from “Mission” to “Mandate”

As part of the development of our new Strategic Plan, we made a deliberate shift in language—from referring to our “mission” to using the term “mandate.”
This change reflects a deeper commitment to accountability and clarity. While a mission often describes an organization’s purpose or aspirations, a mandate emphasizes responsibility—what CPM and Council is entrusted and expected to do by our government and society.
By using mandate, we are grounding our work in action and obligation. It signals not just what we aim to achieve, but what we are committed to delivering—consistently and with measurable impact. It also aligns more closely with our purpose – to protect the public interest. Reaffirming that our work is not only visionary, but vital.
This terminology shift supports a culture of purpose-driven leadership and ensures that our strategic goals are rooted in service, equity, and real-world outcomes.
